I most remember Lucille Randon as having caught COVID, but only having very mild symptoms and becoming the oldest person to catch COVID and recover, very early in the Pandemic, before there were antibody treatments and when treatment was still much less effective than it is currently. Now she is the probably WOP titleholder.
I increasingly think that longevity is largely all genetics. There are exceptions to the rule, as you would expect given the complexity of biological systems, and thus you occasionally get unlikely cases of longevity (if you were viewing from this lens). I mean look at it: Jeanne Calment appears to have had Tuberculosis (scarring on her lungs) just as her daughter did, but was never hospitalized with it, recovered fully, and lived to 122. Tanaka Kane had pancreatic cancer in the 1940s (the average survival time today, after diagnosis, is less than five years) and lived to 119, even after subsequent bouts of cancer past age 100. Calment also survived hip surgery at age 116. I more and more suspect, in a somewhat Calvinist manner, that random chance is somewhat involved, and lifestyle too, but that its mainly genetics; people who live to advanced age just seem to have more effective bodily functions or more optimised gene expressions; their immune systems work well and they just don’t typically get sick at all or if they do have mild illnesses that never become serious. You see the news articles frequently; “this man lived to 104, never went to the hospital a day in his life or took a single pill. Worked at a grocery store till he was 97, enjoyed beer and steak and watching baseball.” That kind of story, while an acquaintance of mine, their mother has already had foot surgery (not overweight either), over issues related to their retail job and walking/standing for long hours ever day and are due for a second one soon, and are going to have to retire at age 74 because of the health issues. Genetic issues are still incompletely understood but the impact often gets glossed over, even when talking about the most extreme examples available, the WOP titleholders, where the focus still ends up being on parts of their diet or lifestyle that are probably of minimal importance (other than good appetite; good appetite and eating consistently seems to me to correlate to longer life’s among the ultra-old).
In Randon’s case, I disagree with the comment she seems senile. From the limited exposure, she mostly seems pretty alert, though blind and with poor hearing. She has a good memory, recognizes friends and family, and is otherwise in pretty good health for her age.

i read somewhere that people born before the Spanish flu pandemic reacted better to covid than people born after. Maria Branyas Morera and Casilda Benegas also survive the covid at 113 without symptoms

The sample is probably to small to draw a conclusion from that.

Here'sa chart detailing world oldest person age since 1955-2022. It is sufficed to say that world oldest person age has increased by a lot from mere 108 to 118. Lucile and Kane have brought a world oldest age to new level .How long do you think will this trend continue? Would we see a ww2 veteran aged 120??
What a very good chart is this!! One small note is Rosalia Spoto of Italy was now debunked.
